Determining the total data size—the sum of the sizes of all of the space-reserved LUNs or files in the volume—helps you estimate how large a volume needs to be.
Steps
- Add up all of the space-reserved files or LUNs.
| If your volume will contain... |
Use... |
| LUNs |
The size of all space-reserved LUNs. |
| Files |
The expected full size of all space-reserved files. |
Example
If you know your database needs two 20-GB disks, you must create two 20-GB space-reserved LUNs. The total LUN size in this example is 40 GB.
- Add in whatever amount of space you want to allocate for the non-space-reserved files.
Note: This amount can vary, depending on the amount of space you have available and how much data you expect these files to contain.
