When you create a quota for a volume, that quota is usually automatically inherited by all qtrees in that volume. However, some conditions will prevent a volume quota from being inherited by the volume's qtrees.
The following list outlines the conditions when a quota for a volume is not inherited by the volume's qtrees:
- When an explicit quota exists for a qtree, and that explicit quota conflicts with a quota applied to the containing volume, the quota applied to the qtree takes precedence over the volume quota.
- When you create an explicit user or group quota to override a default quota that is defined for the volume, the presence of an analogous default quota for the qtree prevents the volume override from being inherited by the qtree.
- Default quotas for qtrees take precedence over explicit quotas for the containing volume.
