For SAS-connected disks, the disk ID corresponds to the shelf ID and the drive bay number within that shelf. Internal disk drives are considered to be on shelf 0.
The disk ID for a SAS-attached disk drive in drive bay 18 of shelf number 3 would be 3.18.
