Setting up and starting virus scanning

You set up one or more virus-scanning clients to ensure that files on your storage system are virus-free.

  1. Setting up PC clients as virus-scanning clients
    You must purchase, set up, and start commercially available Data ONTAP-compliant virus-scanning software and enable the Data ONTAP virus-scan feature before you can scan for viruses.
  2. Enabling virus scanning on the storage system
    Before you use the virus-scanning software, you must start Data ONTAP's virus-scan feature.
  3. Setting up secondary scanning clients
    If you configured more than one virus-scanning client configured to scan files on a storage system, you can designate those additional clients as standby clients that do not actively scan for viruses unless the primary virus-scanning client goes down.
  4. Setting up McAfee scan detection properties for NetApp storage systems
    The AV scanner registers successfully with the storage system running Data ONTAP, but the scanner does not scan the storage system share.
