Finding the Snapshot copy you need from a CIFS client

The best way to find all versions of a particular file preserved in Snapshot copies is to use the Find function in Windows.

Steps

  1. To find all the versions of a particular file in the Snapshot copies, choose Find from the Windows Start menu and select Files and Folders.

A search window opens prompting you for a directory and file name.

  2. In the search window, enter the file name to search for in the ~snapshot directory.

CIFS client example

If you map the home share to drive F: and want to find all versions of myfile.txt in Snapshot copies, you can choose Find from the Windows Start menu to search for myfile.txt in the f:\~snapshot folder.
