How to determine a disaster

It is critical that you follow some predefined procedure to confirm that a disaster really has occurred.

Use any of the following procedures to determine the status of the supposed disaster site.

  • Use the following external interfaces:
    • Ping
    • Remote shell
    • FilerView
    • Protection Manager
  • Use network management tools to test connectivity to the disaster site.
  • Physically inspect the site, if possible.
Note: You should declare a disaster only after determining that a disaster has occurred and that service cannot be restored.
