Speaker: Dr. Mark Evered is a Senior Lecturer of University of New England. He is working on Object-oriented languages, Software Engineering, Distributed Systems and Protection. Title: An Object-based Approach to Minimal Access Abstract: In this seminar I will give an overview of research into object-based mechanisms and languages for enforcing minimal, need-to-know access control for persistent data. This research has led to the capability-based middleware system Opsis and to a Java language extension called Jarrah, which supports persistent objects and fine-grained access control. Current work includes the definition of a specification language for minimal access control based on algebraic specification. The talk will highlight some of the difficulties involved in specifying and implementing minimal access in real, complex information systems such as in the Health sector. Mark Evered obtained his PhD at the Darmstadt University of Technology in Germany. He has worked at a number of German universities and has been at the University of New England since 1999. His research interests include object-oriented languages and systems, software engineering and protection in persistent and distributed systems.
