Archaeology
The Archaeology minor provides students with knowledge of the principles and techniques archaeologists employ to study past behaviours and lifeways. Students enrolled in the Minor in Archaeology will combine research with practical experience and skills to examine different types of archaeological evidence including cultural and technological artefacts, ecofacts (such as bones, molluscs, botanical remains) and past landscapes. They will explore the lives of past societies and individuals as well as landscapes and environments, which they inhabited and their combined influence on present day life. Through surveying the prehistory of human culture in Australasia and elsewhere around the world, this Minor considers the recovery, analysis, and interpretation of the archaeological record and evidence within the context of key research questions in the discipline. This minor equips graduates with the ability to combine research with practical, problem solving skills in addressing human behaviour, cultural change, technological development and human-environment interactions.
A minor in Archaeology requires at least 24 credit points. The two 100 and 200 level subjects are compulsory, and the other two can be chosen from the 300-level subjects.
