Overview 

The Bachelor of Communication and Media - Bachelor of Computer Science will allow you to examine the rise of local and global media industries, audiences and practices, and critique their implications across technology, policy, social and cultural dimensions. It will combine the theoretical foundations and practical approaches to computation and its applications. You will learn to design methods and tools and write programs for varied purposes such as applications for mobile data, game design, and information management and big data. 

You will gain both a strong computer science foundation and a deep understanding of how to be a professional communicator in a global environment studying the Bachelor of Communication and Media - Bachelor of Computer Science.

Course Learning Outcomes 

A number of the course learning outcomes in each of these degrees complement and consolidate outcomes in the partner degree. Applied across two discipline areas, the outcomes are achieved at a broader and more comprehensive level.

Course Structure

To qualify for award of this degree students must complete a minimum of 216 credit points comprised of the following:

  1. The core subjects for the Bachelor of Communication and Media (48 credit points);
  2. At least one of the majors in the Bachelor of Communication and Media (48 credit points);
  3. The core subjects for the Bachelor of Computer Science (96 credit points)
  4. At least one of the majors in the Bachelor of Computer Science (24 credit points)

Note: Not more than 90 credit points in 100-level subjects.

Professional Recognition/Accreditation

The Bachelor of Computer Science is accredited by the Australian Computer Society as meeting the requirements for membership at a “Professional Level”.

Honours

Honours is an additional year of study that provides training in independent research. Students who complete the double degree with the required standard are encouraged to proceed to either the Bachelor of Communication and Media (Honours) or the Bachelor of Computer Science (Honours). Please refer to the Course Handbook pages for further information about these degrees. 

Other Information

INDS208 Working with Indigenous Communities is an elective subject available to all students. INDS208 fosters work skills, cultural competency and develops student awareness of Indigenous knowledges and community practices.
