Work Integrated Learning (WIL) | 2020

Work Integrated Learning for Career Readiness

‘Work-integrated learning’ - also known as WIL, provides students with the opportunity to enhance their employability by applying but also testing their knowledge and skills acquired in their tertiary studies in professional work settings. WIL refers to practicums, clinical placements, internships, community-based service learning, industry experience, professional practice, and workplace simulations.

These ‘real-world’ experiences will help boost and develop critical skills and attributes sought after by employers and further deepen disciplinary knowledge. They also assist in growing the student’s career and job opportunities through access to information about job openings through newly formed professional networks. A WIL experience often clarifies and influences the direction the learner wants to take their career while providing useful insight into how the graduate labour market works and an understanding of how to navigate its recruitment processes.

UOW has extensive partnerships across the private, public and community sectors locally, nationally and internationally that facilitate WIL experiences.
