Overview

A postgraduate Master of Science qualification specialising in Leadership in Gerontology and Rehabilitation or Person Centred Dementia Care provides graduates with a competitive advantage in the job market and provides mid-career clinicians the opportunity to update their knowledge through contemporary studies in the chosen area of specialisation. Leadership and research skills gained in the Master of Science prepares you for career progression into senior clinical, management, teaching, and research roles. Graduates from this course are Clinical Nurse Consultants, aspiring Clinical Nurse Consultants, family carers, Medical Practitioners, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Registered Nurses, Social Workers, volunteers and others in aged and dementia care. The qualification offers two specialisations:

Leadership in Gerontology and Rehabilitation

The Master of Science (Leadership in Gerontology and Rehabilitation Studies) is designed to provide opportunities for clinicians working with older people or clients with rehabilitation needs. You will be able to critically review the health and well being of older people, review social policy in aged care, and develop advocacy skills to work with users, carers and colleagues in the health, social care and voluntary sectors.

Person Centred Dementia Care

The Master of Science (Person Centred Dementia Care) is a clincially focused program that prepared practitioners for advanced professional practice in the specialist field of dementia. Graduates are able to critically review the health and well-being of individuals living with dementia, review social policy in dementia care, and develop advocacy skills to work with users, carers and colleagues in the health, social care and voluntary sectors.

Course Learning Outcomes

Course Learning Outcomes are statements of learning achievement that are expressed in terms of what the learner is expected to know, understand and be able to do upon completion of a course. Students graduating from this course will be able to:

2 Appraise and apply theoretical and conceptual frameworks in relation to healthcare problems that lead to person centred care
3 Investigate, evaluate and synthesise information to integrate empirical, theoretical and industry knowledge that delivers evidence-based practice initiatives in the workplace
4 Communicate evidence based, person centred recommendations to various audiences that week to improve care outcomes
5 Apply knowledge and skills in order to plan and execute a substantial research-based initiative
