Bachelor of Pre-Medicine, Science and Health (Medical Science) | 2018
The Medical Science major provides an overview of human structure, function and health. The major is built on the core disciplines of human anatomy, physiology, biology, and chemistry, along with human growth, nutrition, exercise and effective communication in health care. Control mechanisms, histology, and pathophysiology are introduced in the second year, along with regional anatomy, cardiorespiratory physiology and neuroscience in the final year. Lectures, tutorials, and hands-on practical sessions are an integral component of the teaching across the major.
In addition to graduate entry medicine, this major is also a pathway to Honours and postgraduate research in the medical science field. As a graduate of this major, professional career pathways include but are not limited to medical research in a range of sectors including biotechnology industry, government laboratories, and hospital settings; allied heath; consulting; and higher education.
Major Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from a major in Medical Science will be able to:
- Explain principles and concepts of science that underpin medical science and apply to human health.
- Apply specific knowledge and skills in a number of specialised areas within medical and health sciences that include anatomy, chemistry/biochemistry, histology, neuroscience, physiology, pathology and medical research.
