Minor Study Areas (Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health) | 2017

The Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health offers the following minor to students in any degree where their course rules allow:

Indigenous Health

Students who are not studying a Bachelor of Health Science (Indigenous Health) can complete a minor study in Indigenous Health. A minor in Indigenous Health will consist of at least 24 credit points of subjects from the table below. At least 12 credit points must be at 200 level or higher. Subjects in the minor may not be cross-counted towards any other minor or major study. As not all subjects of the minor study are on offer each year, students are advised to first consult with the Indigenous Health Course Coordinator about an appropriate pattern of study.

Archaeology

The archaeology minor provides students with knowledge of the principles and techniques archaeologists employ to study past behaviours and lifeways. Students enrolled in Minor in Archaeology will combine research with practical experience and skills to examine different types of archaeological evidence including cultural and technological artefacts, ecofacts (such as bones, molluscs, botanical remains) and past landscapes. They will explore the lives of past societies and individuals as well as landscapes and environments which they inhabited and their combined influence on present day life. Through surveying the prehistory of human culture in Australasia and elsewhere around the world, this Minor considers the recovery ,analysis, and interpretation of the archaeological record and evidence within the context of key research questions in the discipline. This minor equips graduates with the ability to combine research with practical, problem-solving skills in addressing human behaviour, cultural change, technological development and human- environmental interactions.

A minor in Archaeology will consist of at least 24 credit points of subjects from the table below. At least 12 credit points must be at 200 level or higher.
