Cultural Studies is an innovative, interdisciplinary field of inquiry that examines the social and cultural forces that shape everyday lives: from war to fast food; from industrial farming to fashion; from new technology to designer puppies.  Cultural Studies is committed to providing students with the analytical tools to negotiate, adapt to and understand our rapidly changing, global world.  Drawing on diverse themes and topics - such as everyday life, place, race, gender and sexuality, identities, popular culture, globalisation and consumer culture - students will analyse and debate the significance of a range of cultural practices and contexts.

Cultural Studies teaches skills in cultural analysis, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, independent research, effective communication and facilitation.  It also provides cultural understanding and awareness of issues of social justice in our information-rich and culturally complex world.  Graduates of Cultural Studies find employment in diverse fields, including teaching, government and non-government agencies, media and research as well as community and not-for-profit social, cultural and environmental organisations.  Cultural Studies complements study in the humanities and social sciences as well as law, the sciences, creative arts, geography, commerce and education.
