Global Media and Communication Major | 2017
The global reach of the media and communication industries, and the cultural diversity generated by new virtual workplaces, create a demand for graduates with a grounding in global media and communication studies.
This area of study focuses on strengthening skills in understanding cultural difference and diversity, introducing students to global media networks and infrastructure, and on building capacity among students to produce and interpret media content within a range of local, national and international contexts. It draws from a range of disciplines and studies the media's role in key global debates from environmental sustainability to humanitarian aid. At its core, the Global Media and Communication area of study is designed to produce graduates whose knowledge of media practices in other cultures and whose strong focus on social justice makes them valuable in the workplace and creative, cosmopolitan users of contemporary media. This major equips students to make the best of the challenges and opportunities they will experience as global media citizens.
