Bachelor of Pre-Medicine, Science and Health (Exercise Science)

The course information on this page is for new students commencing their degree in 2016 only.

Students should follow the rules and requirements for the year that they commenced their course. The online course information for years prior to 2016 are available from the Archives link in the menu.

Students should also review current subject availabilities via the Subject Descriptions link in the menu.

The Exercise Science major provides an overview of the acute and chronic effects of physical activity and exercise on human performance, health, and wellbeing. The major provides an introduction to the core disciplines of exercise physiology, biomechanics and motor control, with foundation studies undertaken in biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and human growth and nutrition. Lectures, tutorials, and hands-on practical sessions underlie the teaching approach across the major.  Skills in the undertaking of research, data gathering and interpretation will be developed, with 70 hours of placement/work experience obtained within the exercise science setting. This major is a pathway to Honours and postgraduate research, and graduate entry medicine. Additional study is required for entry into graduate entry allied health programs such as exercise physiology and physiotherapy.

Major Learning Outcomes

Students graduating from a major in Exercise Science will be able to:

  1. Illustrate a comprehensive and coherent knowledge in the principles and concepts associated with exercise science.
  2.  Indicate how exercise science knowledge and skills can be applied in professional practice and scholarship.
