Literacy
The Master of Education (Literacy) is designed to further extend teachers' understandings of the English curriculum, and provides an opportunity for in-depth study of the curriculum domain through the options offered. Understanding the research basis for current policy and curriculum development is an important component of the Masters program.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Master of Education (Literacy) will be able to:
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the key aspects of contemporary English curriculum; including inter alia the role of language in learning, the place of literature (in its variety of forms) and the importance of knowledge about English language.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the historical trajectory of theories and ideas underpinning language and literacy pedagogy particularly as they inform contemporary policy and curriculum.
- Critically evaluate trends and issues in literacy policy and practice from an informed position and on the basis of empirical evidence from a range of learning contexts.
- Demonstrate mastery of communication roles appropriate to leadership among colleagues, educational systems and professional associations.
- Apply research-based understandings to enhance English language and literacy outcomes for students in schools, classrooms and communities.
