Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care

Overview

The Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care is designed for health professionals, including registered nurses and allied health professionals, working within primary health care settings, including general practice, schools, community, refugee health and correctional facilities.

You will study the context and delivery of primary care in Australia, the delivery of primary care services, clinical excellence, as well as best practice principles in the provision of primary health care.

The program has been developed in association with Primary Health Care Organisations and primary care professionals both nationally and internationally and has a strong emphasis on critical thinking, the implementation of best practice and leadership within general practice.

It involves a mix of on-line teaching and learning, and reflection on health care practice.

Course Learning Outcomes

Students graduating from the Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care will be able to:

1. Demonstrate specialised knowledge related to primary health care.
2. Apply primary health care knowledge to clinical practice.
3. Demonstrate skills in critically reviewing and synthesising evidence to address complex problems.
4. Exercise critical thinking and reflection to extend understanding of complex problems.
5. Communicate knowledge and ideas about theoretical concepts of primary health care to a variety of audiences.
6. Articulate independent judgements and demonstrate an understanding of theoretical concepts to underpin clinical decision making.
7. Initiate, plan and evaluate interventions within the primary care environment.
8. Apply professional and ethical principles to the provision of high quality primary health care.
9. Demonstrate understanding of the complex issues that impact on service provision in primary care.

Course Structure

The Graduate Certificate in Primary Health Care requires the successful completion of 24 credit points in accordance with the table below.
