It is relevant to students wishing to pursue a professional career in HRM, as well as to those students who see people management as a necessary part of their future skills portfolio.

Specific focus is placed on the facilitating, acquisition and development of staff, positively influencing their employment performance, and monitoring and managing the processes of staff retention and turnover. It also looks at the surrounding aspects of human resource management such as recruitment and selection, performance appraisal, job analysis and design, and training and development.
