course description
The Master of Forensic Accounting emphasises a holistic approach to the investigation, presentation and resolution of disputes involving legal and accounting issues. Students acquire an understanding of the behavioural and legal framework within which they hone their accounting aptitude and analysis. Students are exposed to the nature and purpose of forensic accounting in an array of contexts and applications ranging from commercial asset valuations and calculation of economic loss to investigation of financial crimes and other dysfunctional behaviour on the part of individuals and corporate management. Students study and acquire skills relevant to a given forensic accounting context, conducting investigations and analysing findings. They learn to recognise governance shortcomings, mitigate inherent risks through appropriate internal control functions and prepare an expert report within an appropriate legal framework. The program adopts a flexible delivery using web-based self learning in conjunction with a 3-day on-campus intensive for each subject.
Students may apply to graduate with a Graduate Certificate in Forensic Accounting after satisfactory completion of four core subjects.
