Overview

This course is designed to provide Enrolled Nurses with a pathway into the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong (UOW). It has been developed jointly by the School of Nursing, Midwifery & Indigenous Health at UOW and the New South Wales Technical and Further Education Commission (NSW TAFE) Shellharbour Campus.

The NSW TAFE curriculum for Enrolled Nurses was mapped against the Bachelor of Nursing curriculum at UOW. As a result of the mapping exercise, subjects were developed to cover the gaps in knowledge, skills and attitudes between an Enrolled Nurse with a TAFE qualification and an undergraduate student who has completed Year 1 in the Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Wollongong.

Students will undertake one of three options depending on their entry qualifications. Two of the three options require students to be co-enrolled at both institutions.

The nursing competencies that underpin the course are those specified by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council (ANMC). The aim of the course is to update the levels of knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to facilitate entry into Year 2 of the Bachelor of Nursing at UOW. Specifically, the course aims to:

    • explore problem/critical thinking in relation to nursing practice;

    • develop previous knowledge that underpins nursing practice;

    • enable the transition to the Bachelor of Nursing programme.

Students entering the Bridging Program have met the Legislative Enrolled Nurses ANMC Competencies.

Applying for Entry

Students with certificate qualifications will be required to co-enrol at both TAFE and the University of Wollongong in order to complete the Bridging Program for Enrolled Nurses. An information day is organised by TAFE Shellharbour each year and application forms for both TAFE and UOW are available at this time. Please contact TAFE Shellharbour for further details.

Students with diploma qualifications enrol at the University of Wollongong only and must apply directly to the University. Please contact UniAdvice for details on how to apply.
