Overview

In Creative Arts, students take extensive studies in one major area: Visual Arts, Graphic Design, Creative Writing or Theatre. The core of the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies deals with contemporary issues in communication and media studies, giving students a broad grounding in which to situate their major study:

    • Digital Media and Communication;

    • International Media and Communication;

    • Journalism and Professional Writing; and

    • Marketing Communications and Advertising.

Credit Transfer

The Faculty offers credit transfers to students who have successfully completed relevant courses at accredited universities and colleges. Students seeking credit transfer are advised to contact the Faculty or UniAdvice for further details and refer to the General Course Rules.

Minors Studies in the Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies

Students can also take a minor study as part of their degree program under the Bachelor of Creative Arts. Subjects taken as part of a minor study cannot be cross counted into any other minor or major study. Minor studies do not appear on the Testamur (degree certificate) but do appear on the Academic Transcript (official academic record). Students are reminded that to have a minor study recorded they must declare their minor study by submitting an Application to Declare or Change Intended Major/Minor.

Course Requirements

To qualify for the award of the Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies, students must complete a minimum of 216 credit points (cp) comprised of the following:

1. 96cp for the Bachelor of Creative Arts degree comprising:

2. All the compulsory (core) subjects in the Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies and the required subjects of one of the major studies in that degree

3. Elective subjects to bring the total number of credit points completed to 216

Note: No more than 90cp at 100 level can be counted towards the Bachelor of Creative Arts- Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies degree. Students must achieve a clear pass in the core 300 level subjects to be eligible to graduate with a Bachelor of Creative Arts - Bachelor of Communication and Media Studies.

Students must consult academic advisors in the Faculty of Creative Arts and Faculty of Arts concerning the selection of appropriate subjects.

Honours

On completion of the Bachelor of Creative Arts, high achieving students may apply to undertake an additional Honours year. Students should consult the Bachelor of Creative Arts (Honours) entry for requirements.
