Students currently enrolled in this degree as at March 31st 2009 will be permitted to complete the degree, provided they maintain continuous enrolment. New students will not be permitted to commence after 31st March 2009. Students returning to study after withdrawing from this degree or transferring out of it will be considered new students and will not be permitted to resume study in the Master of Science (Nutrition Management).

Overview

The Master of Science (Nutrition Management) allows students to critically examine key issues relating to food product development in Australia today, and apply new knowledge and skills to developments within their own work environments. In addition, students have the opportunity to conduct a major project to apply these skills in a research context, or further develop Business and/or Science knowledge.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

Applicants must possess an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian university or institution of equivalent standing, with a grade average of at least 70%.

Applicants who possess an undergraduate degree from a recognised Australian university or institution of equivalent standing, with a grade average between 60% and 69%, and have also completed a minimum of two years full-time relevant work experience (managerial or supervisory in nature and/or which carries a level of responsibility) after graduation will also be considered.

In special circumstances, applicants who hold other academic or professional qualifications and have a minimum of five years full-time or ten years part-time relevant work experience may also be granted admission to the program.

International students are required to have achieved an IELTS score of 6.5, with a minimum level of 6 in reading writing, speaking and listening.

Course Requirements

The Master of Science (Nutrition Management) comprises 72 credit points made up of 4 nutrition and 4 management subjects plus an additional 24 credit points from either a major project (24 credit points) or 4 electives chosen from the Master of Business Administration subjects, or other subjects approved by the Associate Director (Education).

Further Study Options

Students who have completed the requirements of the Master of Science (Nutrition Management) may progress to the Master of Business Administration (MBA) with up to 48 credit points of advanced standing. Students need to meet the required two years work experience for the Master of Business Administration program.

Students in this program should be aware that there is no direct transfer option into other Nutrition Masters programs (including Nutrition, Nutrition & Dietetics). Students may apply to enter these other programs via the usual application process, which is generally competitive.

Students who wish to later apply for entry into the Master of Science (Nutrition or Nutrition & Dietetics) must ensure that they have the required pre-requisites including 12 credit points of human physiology and 12 credit points of biochemistry.
