Overview

The Master of Science - Research provides the opportunity to pursue independent research in fields including biomedical science, exercise science, exercise rehabilitation, nutrition and dietetics, and public health. Students who wish to undertake a PhD and have not completed a research honours year as part of their undergraduate degree or obtained an honours grade of Class II, Division 2 or below should undertake a Master of Science - Research. Students may apply for a course transfer to a PhD after 12 months of candidature. Consult the information under the Doctor of Philosophy for information about the schools research areas.

Entry Requirements / Assumed Knowledge

Students must have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. International students are required to have achieved an IELTS score of 6.5, with a level of 6 in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

Advanced Standing

Advanced standing for the coursework component may be granted to those who have completed an appropriate Bachelor (Honours) Degree.

Course Requirements

All candidates for this program must present a research seminar in each enrolled year, take part in a research proposal and defence process, and submit a written research thesis.

Students entering the program with an Honours Bachelor degree with at least Class II, Division 2, are required to complete a research thesis to the value of 48 credit points.

Students who do not have an Honours Bachelor degree with at least Class II, Division 2, must complete 24 credit points of coursework research methodology, as well as complete a 48 credit point major thesis.

A detailed research proposal must be submitted for examination within the first year of candidature. This examination must be passed successfully for the candidature to be allowed to continue.
