Overview

Double degrees aim to broaden a student's knowledge and skill base and improve career options in competitive, increasingly interactive fields. The programs are designed to enhance a student's educational, academic and professional qualifications whilst minimising the costs of their studies.

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) - Bachelor of Commerce double degree commences your pathway to professional registration as a psychologist and allows you to gain expertise in your choice of a broad range of business majors. 

This course is for the highly motivated. Continuation in the degree will be dependent upon achieving a cumulative average of at least 75% in the Psychology subjects approved for the degree.

Course Learning Outcomes 

A number of the course learning outcomes in each of these degrees complement and consolidate outcomes in the partner degree. Applied across two discipline areas, the outcomes are achieved at a broader and more comprehensive level.

The outcomes which are common and consolidated in this joint degree ensure that on successful completion of the course students will be able to:

Course Structure

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) - Bachelor of Commerce requires the successful completion of a minimum of 264 credit points in accordance with the table below, including:

a) 156 credit points of core Psychology subjects; and

b) at least 6 credit points from the specified list of Science electives; and

c) 42 credit points of core 100 level Commerce subjects; and

d) at least 48 credit points from a Commerce major; and

e) one 6 credit point Commerce capstone subject; and

 f) additional elective subjects, as required, to achieve a minimum degree total of 264 credit points, chosen from the from the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours), the Bachelor of Commerce or the General Schedule

Continuation in the Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) component of the course requires an average result of at least 75% at the end of 100-level, a cumulative average of at least 75% for 100 and 200-level subjects at the end of 200-level, and a cumulative average of at least 75% for 200 and 300-level subjects at the end of 300-level in the psychology subjects approved for the degree. Students who do not maintain this level of academic achievement will be required to transfer to the Bachelor of Psychological Science - Bachelor of Commerce.

Note: Students in the double degree are not required to take COMM121 Statistics for Business, which is normally a common core subject for students in the Bachelor of Commerce single degree. PSYC123 Research Methods and Statistics meets the requirement for a first year statistics subject and remains as a core requirement for the double degree.

Honours

**Psychology Honours Program  400-Level

To be eligible to proceed to the 400-level Psychology Honours program, students must have:

  1. Completed at least 144 credit points, including all required 100, 200 and 300-level Psychology core subjects outlined above; and
  2. Maintained a cumulative average of at least 75% for 200 and 300-level psychology subjects.

The Psychology Honours grade will be calculated in accordance with Method 1. For further information refer to Coursework Rules.

Candidates intending to complete Psychology Honours as part-time students will generally do PSYC418, PSYC415, PSYC416 and PSYC417 in the first year, and PSYC410 in the second year.

Transfer Options Between Psychology - Commerce Double Degrees

Students who decide not to complete the Psychology Honours year can transfer to the Bachelor of Psychological Science - Bachelor of Commerce double degree.

Professional Recognition and Accreditation

Bachelor of Psychology (Honours)

The Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council as a four year sequence for the purposes of provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia. An additional two years of supervised practice is necessary to apply for general registration. This can be through two years supervised practice in the community or a fifth year at University plus one year of supervised practice in the community or an approved Masters degree
