Overview
The Bachelor of Commerce Global – Bachelor of Laws offers high- performing students the opportunity to achieve their ambitions and career goals while being fully immersed in the vibrant cultures and operations of international business industries. This degree provides a global study experience, personal mentoring and significant financial sponsorship, as well as the opportunity to gain real-world skills and work experience – all while seeing the world. You will also have the opportunity to undertake multiple internships at top-rated multinational firms over the course of your studies.
You’ll emerge with a sound understanding of our legal system and its social and international context, as well as the ability to resolve ethical and complex legal issues. You will also be exposed to relevant industry-driven content as part of your commerce degree gaining a firm foundation in the principles of social responsibility, preparing you for success in your chosen career.
The Bachelor of Commerce Global – Bachelor of Laws is a full time degree that equips you with a comprehensive legal education: a world-class degree that provides a thorough grounding in the law, as well as a real-world focus on the essential practical skills and the social and ethical context in which the law operates. Combining law with commerce prepares you for a range of careers, giving you the edge as you gain a legal perspective on contemporary and socially responsible business practice. It provides a program of study in commerce, business and administration and further develops analytical and interpersonal skills and high levels of literacy and numeracy.
After completion of a foundation year at the Wollongong campus where you will study core subjects in the Bachelor of Laws degree, you will undertake your second year of study at three of the University of Wollongong’s global locations – PSB Academy in Singapore, UOW College in Hong Kong and UOW in Dubai. You will then complete your third, fourth and final year of study at the Wollongong campus in which you will study law and commerce subjects. Industry engagement is an integral component of this degree. You will have the opportunity to complete four internships!

Course Structure
To qualify for award of the degree, the Bachelor of Commerce Global - Bachelor of Laws, a candidate must successfully complete at least 252 credit points, comprised of:
- all compulsory Law subjects (114 credit points) as set out in the Course Program below;
- elective subjects to the value of 30 credit points from the Bachelor of Laws Elective Law Schedule - see Bachelor of Laws (Graduate Entry) for elective options:
- subjects to the value of at least 108 credit points from the Bachelor of Commerce Course Program, including;
- core subjects (60 credit points) as set out below. These credit points include three Commerce Global internship subjects including in-company placements, and a capstone subject.
- at least one major (48 credit points) from the Bachelor of Commerce (excluding the Business Law major).
Candidates for this degree will be required to maintain a Weighted Average Mark (WAM) of at least 75 each year for the Bachelor of Commerce Global part of the course to continue in the program.

Part-time Study
A student is considered part-time when they are enrolled in less than 75% of the standard load for a session. If you are seeking to complete your undergraduate law degree part-time, you are required to complete a minimum of 12 credit points (2 subjects) per session. Majors
Majors and minors are not available in the Bachelor of Laws degree. Refer to the Bachelor of Commerce Course Handbook page for majors degree. It is necessary for students to seek appropriate advice on their options for majors and subject sequences.
The Business Law major is not available in this degree.
Compulsory Work Placement / Online Components
Undertaking a work integrated learning experience during your university education is now a significant contributor to being competitive in securing employment in your field of choice when you graduate from UOW. Law students will complete a Legal Internship subject (LLB3397). This subject is the vehicle for a practical placement designed to expose students to the application of the law in practice; enable students to understand the importance of developing the skills of legal research; communication, drafting, practice management and problem solving; and enable students to observe and reflect upon the values, ethical standards and conduct of the legal profession in practice.
The Law degree contains a total of 140 hours over 4 weeks of compulsory work-based placements. This course may also contain compulsory components to be completed online.
As part of the Bachelor of Commerce Global students will also undertake three Business internships in their third, fourth and fifth year. These are COMM191, COMM292 and COMM392 respectively.
Professional Recognition/Accreditation
The UOW Bachelor of Laws (single LLB or in combination with another degree) is accredited by the Legal Procession Admission Board (LPAB) as satisfying the academic requirements necessary for admission to the Australian legal profession.
On completion of the Bachelor of Laws, a student who wishes to practice as a barrister or solicitor must also undertake some form of professional practical training, the requirements for which vary between each state and territory of Australia. In New South Wales, a student who intends to qualify for admission to practice is required to undertake a practical legal training (PLT) course accredited by the LPAB, followed by or incorporating a period of practical experience in a law-related setting. Practical experience gained by students in LLB3397 Legal Internship may be counted towards this practical experience requirement. Graduates should check with their PLT provider.A list of LPAB accredited PLT courses can be found on the LPAB website.
Students who intend to practise as solicitors after admission will be subject to a period of restricted practice and the mandatory continuing legal education requirements.Further information is available from the Law Society of New South Wales.
Students who intend to practise as barristers after admission will be required to read with a senior barrister for a period of time and to undertake the Bar Readers' Course and Bar Examination before being qualified to take briefs on their own account. A Bachelor of Commerce Global enables graduates to meet the educational requirements of a number of national and international professional registrations and memberships, depending on the subjects completed.For more information visit Professional Recognition.
Honours
High achieving students, enrolled in this double degree, who are interested in undertaking Honours in Law, may consult with the Honours Coordinator in Law regarding the possibility of transferring into an Honours version of the degree.
A student who successfully transfers into an Honours program but does not meet the minimum performance standards required for the award of Honours will be permitted to transfer back to the double degree in which they were enrolled immediately prior to the transfer into the Honours course, and will be awarded credit for the number of credit points passed in the Honours degree.
